Janet A. Martens, 44 years old of Brockton died peacefully Saturday October 4, 2008 under the care of hospice after a lengthy illness. She was born in Brookline and raised in Dorchester and Brockton a daughter of Barbara A. (Sullivan) Martens of Brockton and the late Charles F. Martens. Janet had been a department manager at Wal-Mart in Abington for 12 years and had previously been an associate at the Eastside Bradlees and Big Value Outlet.
Janet had been an outstanding athlete in her youth and was a little league pitcher and champion bowler. She enjoyed the Red Sox and Patriots and doing automotive repair. She also enjoyed fishing, camping, sketching and drawing and all animals especially her pets.
In addition to her mother she is survived by two sisters and a brother Linda Washburn and her husband Alden of Carver; Laura Martens and her partner Tony Burroughs of Wareham and Joseph Martens of Dighton. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend Butch Reid of E. Bridgewater.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Friday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Christ the King/St. Colman Parish at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm.
