Helen (Clark) Barber, 91, of Mystic died Friday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born November 2, 1911 in Preston, Connecticut the daughter of Fred and Phoebe (Holdridge) Clark. She was married to P. Stanley Barber who died in 1971.
She was a rural route mail carrier for many years in Mystic and later the Postmistress of the West Mystic Post Office. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Mystic.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Lima of Stonington and her sons Paul S. Barber and his wife Kerri, of North Stonington, Fred Barber and his wife Marion of Mystic, and Kenneth Barber of Mystic, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Lillilan Pollard, Esther Dubber, Pauline Nichols, and Edith Crandall and her brothers Fred Clark and Robert Clark.
A Largely attended funeral service was conducted Monday afternoon at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic. The Rev. Merle Spring, pastor emeritus of the old Mystic Baptist Church, officiated. The Order of Eastern Star also conducted a Memorial Ceremony prior to the service. Burial followed next to her late husband at Elm Grove Cemetery, where family members served as casket bearers.
