Obituary

Lucy “Emma” (Lombard) Dennis, 97, Life-long resident of Abington; daughter of the late Clarence and Jennie (Keene) Lombard, and wife of the late John W. Dennis Sr., with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her 4 siblings; the late Helen Lombard, the late Clarence “Junior” Lombard Jr., the late Virginia Reed-Hanafin, and the late Christine Brown. Devoted mother of the late Caryl Dennis, Barbara Roscoe of Abington, the late John W. Dennis Jr., and Shirley Dennis of Lexington, Ky. She also leaves 9 grandchildren; Diana Kanafani and Debra Dennis of Florida, Alan Roscoe of Rowley, Beth Roscoe of Ludlow, Jennifer Repeta of East Bridgewater, Heather Roscoe of Medford, Julie Wing of South Carolina, and Laurie Eads and Christine Raymer, both of Ky. She also leaves 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces & nephews, and dear friends.

Mrs. Dennis was a graduate of Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing, and was previously employed as a Pediatric Ward Clerk at South Shore Hospital, as a Chocolatier at Hilliard’s House of Candy, and in her later years as one of the “Golden Girls” at the Abington Savings Bank. She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Order of the Rainbow for Girls.

She will always be remembered for her kindness to others, her adventurous spirit, her skill as a wonderful cook, but most of all for her devotion to her family.

A memorial service celebrating Emma’s life will be held at 1pm on Saturday Oct. 11th at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 at the rotary circle), Whitman. Visiting hours Friday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross or Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Private interment at a later date in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Abington.
