George F. Hollien, 78 years of Kingston died Friday October 3, 2008 at his home under the care of hospice and his family. He was the husband for 55 years of Edna D. (Pooler) Hollien. Born and raised in Brockton, he was a son of the late George T. and Alice E. (Wiley) Hollien. George had been a resident of Kingston for the past 10 years and previously lived in Halifax for 18 years. Following his graduation from Brockton High School he enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea.
George had retired from the maintenance department at Massasoit Community College and had previously worked at Wirthmore Grain in Bridgewater, Ridders in East Bridgewater and the Fore River Shipyard.
Golf gave George great enjoyment in life and he had been a longtime member of Ridder Country Club. He also enjoyed winters in Largo, Florida where he could golf as a snowbird. He took great pride in landscaping his yard and his manicured lawn.
In addition to his wife Edna he is survived by his favorite daughter Judy Hollien of Brockton and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rita A. James.
Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 10 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm.
