Obituary

Salem: Robert J. ‘Joe’ St. Pierre, Jr. age 68 of Salem, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a long illness. He was the husband of Barbara A. (McNeilly) St. Pierre with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of Lorraine A. (Dion) St. Pierre and the late Robert J. St. Pierre, Sr. He attended St. Joseph Academy of Salem and during the Vietnam War served in Germany with the U.S. Army. As a young boy, Joe worked in the family owned St. Pierre Movers of Salem and remained until his retirement in 2006, for a total of 50 years with the company

Joe’s passion was ships. He volunteered for the Friendship at the Salem Maritime Site serving as both crew member and repairman for the vessel. He was proud to sail on several of the ship’s voyages. Joe also liked to build ship models, constructing them from scratch.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Ruth A. Hunt and her husband Richard of Salem, 3 grandchildren, Anthony R., Barbara R. and Dyanna M. Hunt all of Salem, 2 brothers, Richard St. Pierre and his wife Lynda of Hamilton, Roger St. Pierre and his wife Claire of Salem, 2 sisters, Anita Plummer and her husband Kenneth of Florida, Roberta Paquin and her husband Daniel of North Carolina. Joe is also survived by 8 aunts and uncles, Lucienne Dupuis, Jeannette Maurice, Eva Castranova, Terry St. Pierre, Rose Ouellette, Rene St. Pierre and Richard ‘Jimmy’ St. Pierre. Joe also leaves many friends associated with the Friendship. He was predeceased by his daughter Patricia Ann St. Pierre.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service on Monday at 11 am in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. / 1-A] Salem. Visiting hours: Sunday 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 pm. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. For additional information, please visit www.levesquefunerals.com
