Obituary

James “Jim” F. Smith Sr., 75 of Medway died October 2 in his home following a long illness. He was the husband of A. Shirley (Calnan) Smith.
Born in Milford, November 29, 1932, the son of the late James B. and Margaret (Connors) Smith, Mr. Smith was a lifelong Medway resident.
Mr. Smith graduated from the Peabody School in Norwood.
Mr. Smith had worked for the Town of Medway Department of Public Works in the Water Department for 30 years before retiring.
He had been a member of the Medway Fire Department for 28 years.
Mr. Smith served in the Army during the 1950’s attaining the rank of Corporal.
He was a member and former Commander of the Medway VFW and a member of the Medway American Legion.
Mr. Smith had been a member of the St. Joseph’s Church Men’s Club. He enjoyed bowling and had been a member of the St. Joseph Bowling League for 50 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James F. Smith Jr. of Medway and daughters, Theresa M. Draycott and Maureen A. Smith, both of Medway.
He is also survived by his brother, Vincent T. Smith of Ft. Myers, Florida, his grandchildren, Jennifer Smith, Stephanie Donovan and Deborah Draycott and his great-grandchildren, Molly Bernard, Joseph Donovan, Dean Draycott, Patrick Smith and Christian Donovan.
His funeral will be held on Monday, October 6 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 a.m.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4-8 p.m.
