Obituary

Annette A. (Heinzle) Desmarais, 81, of Grafton, died Monday, April 7, at home.

She leaves her husband of 53 years, Adrien A. Desmarais of Grafton, three sons, Steven P. Desmarais of Princeton; Richard J. Desmarais of North Fayston, Vermont; and David E. Desmarais of West Tisbury; a daughter with whom she lived, Linda M. Sheridan of North Grafton; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was born in Konstanz, Germany, daughter of Karl J. Heinzle and Anna (Geyer), and immigrated to the United States in 1927. She lived many years in Holden and graduated from Holden High School and Mass General School of Nursing.

Mrs. Desmarais was head nurse of the newborn nursery at Worcester Memorial Hospital for many years and was instrumental in the opening of its neonatal ICU. She also worked at Hahnemann Hospital and was a newborn nurse for Worcester Pediatric Associates. Mrs. Desmarais enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, and crafts. She was a member of Mass General Alumni Association and Memorial Hospital Retiree’s.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 10, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. George’s Catholic Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester. Calling hours will be held 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel (NordgrenMemorialChapel.com). Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Bosler Humane Society, P.O. Box 12, Baldwinville, MA 01436, or UMass Memorial Nursery, 119 Belmont Street, Worcester, MA 01605. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., is directing arrangements.
