Joseph Anthony Gonella, 84, of 40 Clipper Drive, Mystic, died peacefully with family members present after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 8, 1924, in Torrington, CT, the son of Bartolomeo and Luigia (Novara) Gonella.
He was predeceased by his wife (7/10/06), Blanche A. Gonella.
He was a member of the Westerly Yacht Club, the Groton Elks, and the VFW
He is survived by 3 daughters, Carolyn Spotten and her husband John of Ledyard, Doreen Lambrechts and her husband Alan of Westerly RI, and Jody Gonella of Mystic; a sister: Catherine Bazzano of Pleasant Valley, CT; 8 Grandchildren: Jamie L. Spotten, Kelly A. Spotten, Lori J. Hatch, Jenna L. Holt, Joseph A. Lamperelli, Liza M. Lamperelli, Annalyse Lambrechts, and Kenndra Lambrechts, and
2 great-grandchildren: Alexander S. Hatch and Ryan D. Holt.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, E, Main Street, Mystic on Thursday 10am. Burial will be private for the family.
