Donald A. "Nonnie" Lopes, 73, of New Bedford died Monday September 29, 2008 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Esther (Lopes) Lopes.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank A. and Lucadia (Tavares) Lopes, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Lopes was formerly employed as an electrician for Rose Electric.
He was a former member of the Gaylords Club.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Terence J. Lopes of Hyannis, Donna M. Cruz and her husband Michael D. of New Bedford, Justin J. Lopes of Boston, Lisa M. Almeida and her husband Raimundo of Marietta, GA, and Talia M. Sokolowski and her husband Anthony of Moosup, CT; a brother, Douglas G. Lopes of Falmouth; a half-brother, Robert "Bobby" Grace of New Bedford; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Stephen Lopes, Anthony "Bumpy" Lopes, and James "Jayme" Lopes.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
