Obituary

Henry Alleyne. Ryce , 87, of Hingham died August 27, 2008 after a brief illness.

Mr. Ryce was born and raised in Cambridge, and was the son of the late Henry L. and Meta A. Ryce.

Mr. Ryce graduated from Boston University and earned his Masters in Social Work from Boston College. While attending West Virginia State University he met the love of his life, Frances Harris and married her on October 16, 1944. They were married 45 years until her death in 1989.

Mr. Ryce served in the Army during World War II, first in Papua New Guinea and then in the Philippine Islands rising in rank to Master Sargent.

He retired in 1980 as Chief Socialworker for the Veterans Administration, Boston.

A long time Hingham resident, Mr. Ryce enjoyed boating and sport fishing. He loved to travel and was extremely fond of ocean travel. He will be remembered for his gentlemanly ways, strong opinions about everything in general and nothing in particular, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He leaves his son, Leslie H. Ryce and his wife Jacqueline Washington of Alexandria, VA, his brother Gilbert Arthur Ryce and his wife Nan of Cambridge, MA. He also leaves his nieces Connie White of Durham, NC, Barbara Guthrie and her husband Raymond of Hampden, CT and Shirley McKinney of Cambridge, MA., his nephews George D. White III and his wife Dianna, of Florence, SC and Arthur P. Ryce of Cambridge.

In addition, he leaves grandnieces, grand nephews, several cousins and friends.

A Memorial service will be celebrated on what would have been Mr. Ryce’s 88th birthday, Monday, October 6, at the Parish of St. John the Evangelist,
172 Main St., Hingham at 11:30AM. Interment will be private.
