Robert L. "Buddy" Carr, Sr., 63, of New Bedford died September 27, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
He was the husband of Cathleen M. (Delaney) Carr.
Born and raised in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Harry and Earleen (Temple) Carr, he has lived in New Bedford since 1978.
Buddy was the Director of the Seamen's Bethel for many years and previously was a homicide detective in Portsmouth, VA.
He was a member of the New Bedford Port Society, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, The Star in the East Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and volunteered as a circus clown at the Shriners Hospital. Buddy enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and talking on his Ham Radio.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Kyle Taylor of New Bedford and Robert Carr, Jr. of Virginia; 3 daughters, Sara Borden of New Bedford and Kelly Messer and Robin Rose, both of Virginia; a brother, Howard Carr and his wife Marie of Virginia; 5 grandchildren, Jaden Borden, Logan Menard, Aaron Messer, Jacob Messer and Tyler Rose; 5 nieces and 8 nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, October 2nd at 8:30 AM. Funeral Service at Seamen's Bethel at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, October 1st from 4-8 PM.
