FREEDA BROWN WEST, 89, of Louisville, went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Episcopal Church Home.
A native of Gallatin, Tennessee, she moved to Louisville in 1942. For many years, she taught Sunday School and other activities at Shively Baptist Church, where she had been a member for over fifty-five years. She was also a 50 year member of the Shively Eastern Star #566.
Devoted to care for her family and friends, she was always quietly helping and caring for others.
She is preceded in death by her husband of over fifty years, William Russell “Bill” West, and a grandson, Brent Russell Carpenter.
Freeda will be missed by her daughters, Doreen Cromis (Curtis) of Germantown, TN, and Martine Carpenter of Middletown, KY. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Dena Palmer (Andrew) of Nashville, TN, Janene Cromis of Germantown, TN., and Tina Whelan of Louisville; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.
The family will visit with friends from 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
