Obituary

Edward Souza, age 87, died Thursday morning, Sept. 25, 2008, in the Winchester Hospital after a brief illness. Born in East Boston, August 26, 1921, Edward was the beloved son of the late Maria (Machado) & Victor Souza.

Edward has been a Woburn resident for the last 54 years. He and his beloved wife, Helen (Aniello) Souza, who were married on September 29, 1941, and have been together for over 67 years, moved here in 1954 from East Boston. Edward worked as a finish carpenter for most of his life. A member of the Carpenter's Union, Local 218, he also owned different businesses here in Woburn, a woodworking shop, Lumber yard and was also a home builder.
Before his retirement in 1986, Edward was a Construction Superintendent for the R.J. Donovan Company of Winchester.

Edward was a US Army veteran having served during World War II. He enjoyed having new cars, playing guitar and building and operating model trains in his spare time. He and his loving family summered in Groton, on Knopp's Pond, for over 20 years, where they had a summer home. Edward was a former member and past president of the Groton and Stoneham Lions Clubs, and was very active on the district levels.

In addition to his beloved wife Helen, Edward is survived by his devoted children, Elaine Corsetti of North Chelmsford, Diane Shaughnessy and her husband John of Westford, Victor Souza and his wife Mary Rita of Tyngsboro. Loving grandfather of Audrey Maguire and her husband Mark, Deborah Salamone, Stephanie Finn and her husband Jay, Leanne Tall and her husband Jim, Joanne McCole and her husband Kevin, Edward Souza and his wife Elizabeth and Keri Dostie and her husband Ron. Also survived by 14 loving great grandchildren. Further survived by his loving sisters, Laura De Benedictis of Acton, Anna De Modena of East Boston, the late Mary Leone and Dorothy Joyce. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Monday at 8 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church 280 Main St. Woburn, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
