DRACUT - Douglas G. Patch, 86, a long time Dracut resident, died Thursday morning in the D'Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Peasley) Patch with whom he celebrated sixty three years of marriage on July 8, 2008.
Born in Magog, Quebec, Canada on April 19, 1922, he was a son of the late Francis E. and Emma S. (Bryant) Patch. He was a graduate of Magog High School and attended the University of Montreal.
He served his native country during World War II as a member of the Royal Canadian Airforce seeing action overseas and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He was a member of Christ Church United of Dracut where he served as a Deacon and was on various committees within the church. He was a lifetime member of the Stanstead, Quebec, Canada Historical Society and was an avid genealogy researcher.
He was a gifted story teller and student of North American and British History. Additionally he was a published poet best known for his epic tale "The Thunderman" and he had at least one poem set to music and recorded as "Sugarman."
He was a good family man and enjoyed time spent in the company of his family. In his free time he spent many hours tending to his garden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons David D. Patch of Dracut and his fiancee Dona Villandry of Hudson, NH and Donald G. Patch and his wife Nancy M. of Chelmsford; three grandchildren Jonathan D. Patch and his wife Kimberly A. of Dracut, Christopher J. Patch of Dracut and Richard W. Patch and his wife Jennifer of Lowell; two great grandchildren Emma Rose Patch and Wayne LaPlante; a niece Donna P. Tetreault of Quebec, Canada; a nephew Gregory Patch of British Columbia, Canada; and a special cousin Rosswell Jersey of British Columbia, Canada. He was also the brother of the late F. Bryant and Bruce A. Patch.
Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, Saturday morning from 10 until 11:30 AM. His Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 in the funeral home. Interment in Edson Cemetery, Lowell.
