Mr. LeRoy Joseph Gibson, a 62 year resident of Medford and beloved husband of Vivian G. (Artz) Gibson, died at his home on Sunday, September 21, 2008. He was 83 years old.
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on February 5, 1925, he was the beloved son of the late Roy and Helen (Ferreira) Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a WWII Army veteran, entering the military at Boston, Massachusetts, on September 23, 1943 and receiving his honorable discharge from Fort Devens on January 28, 1946. While in the Army, Mr. Gibson earned the rank of Tec 5 and was awarded the European African Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was also a qualified Marksman and earned the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Roy was employed as a machinist in manufacturing for many years. He collected model cars and trains and was a member of the North Shore Model Railroad Club in Wakefield. Mr. Gibson attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Franklin Institute of Photography. In his spare time, he loved to play Bingo.
Besides his beloved wife, Vivian, he will be sorely missed by five children; Dennis W. and his wife Alexandra M. Gibson of Chelmsford, Marjorie A. and her husband Allen E. Marsh of Nottingham, N.H., Douglas E. and his wife Patricia M. Gibson of Peabody, Brian R. and his wife Diana M. Gibson of Methuen and Donald K. Gibson and eight cherished grandchildren; Lyndsey, Lauren, Taylor, Jeffrey, Kristin, Zachary, Aiden and Amy. He was also the bear brother of the late Daniel Milford Gibson.
His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Thursday, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visiting hours were Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
