Alice S. (Sylvia) Moniz, 91, of Dartmouth died Monday September 22, 2008 at Sippican Healthcare Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Joseph Moniz, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Seraphina (Correia) Sylvia, she lived in Dartmouth for many years.
She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
Mrs. Moniz and her late husband were the co-founders of Homlyke Bakery.
Survivors include three children, Richard Moniz and his wife Loretta of New Bedford, Joseph Moniz, III and his wife Leslie of Acushnet, and Kathleen A. Mello and her husband Raymond of Rochester; a sister, Lucy Angelo of Cape Coral, FL; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
