Chauncey H. Cole, a lifelong resident of Bridgewater, died on September 20,
2008 at Brockton Hospital. He was 90 years old. Born in Bridgewater, a son of the late John & Ruth (Sutcliffe) Cole, he was a graduate of Bridgewater Academy. He worked as a tool & die maker, prescision machinist & model maker at the Bridgewater Foundry & Independant Nail for many years. He served as a call firefighter for 21 years in Bridgewater, & was an Honorary Bridgewater Fire Fighter. Chauncey was the past president of Mount Prospect Cemetery in Bridgewater from 1973 until 1998. He served as Co-Chairman of the Building Committee for the Bridgewater Senior Center & was known as the "Grandfather" of the Senior Center. He enjoyed photography. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Trudeau) Cole; father of Patricia R. Durfee & her husband Robert of Lakeville, & the late Richard A. Cole; grandfather of Michael W. Durfee, Mark C. Durfee & the late Kevin R. Durfee; great grandfather of Jennifer L. & Steven M. Durfee; brother of the late Eldon Cole. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday in the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home (formerly Prophett Funeral Home) 98 Bedford St. (RT 18) Bridgewater from 4-8 Pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 28 in the United Methodist Church, 35 School St. Bridgewater at 2:00 Pm. Burial will be private.
