Earle E Hulburd, Jr, 71, of Mansfield passed away after a long illness at home on Friday, September 19, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn E. (Leavitt) Hulburd to whom he was wed for the past 51 years.
Born in Colchester, VT on April 23, 1937, he was a dear son of Marion F. (Fuller) Hulburd of Burlington, VT and the late Earle E. Hulburd, Sr.
He attended Vermont Academy and was a 1956 graduate of North Troy High School in North Troy, VT as well as a graduate of Champlain College in Burlington, VT.
Mr. Hulburd moved to Massachusetts in 1963 when he accepted a job with Northrop Corporation in Norwood, MA where he was employed for 30 years as a Cost Accountant prior to retiring in 1993. Though he had lived in Mansfield for the past 43 years, he was ever proud of his Vermont heritage and always considered the Green Mountain State to be his home.
Earle was a dedicated family man who loved traveling and sports. A natural athlete himself, he was a local sports enthusiast and was often seen at the high school gym or field watching a game. He was very active and enjoyed the outdoors and camping. Earle was the quintessential handyman who could fix anything from a carburetor to a kitchen sink and prolonged the life of many home appliances well past their expected usefulness.
In his 15 years of retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii and spent much of his time in Florida and on Cape Cod. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. Earle spent his later years caring for his loving wife, Marilyn, and enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud.
In addition to his beloved wife Marilyn he is survived by his devoted children Joanne E. Moore and her husband Joel of Henderson, Nevada, Jennifer J. Murray and her husband Thomas of Mansfield, MA and Jack E. Hulburd and his wife Catharine of Newton, MA. He was the brother of Elaine Albright of Burlington, Vermont, John Hulburd of Burlington, Vermont, Lloyd Hulburd of Shelburne, Vermont and the late Alice Barry.
