John J. ("Jack") Dowd, age 68, of Stoneham, formerly of Haverhill and Woburn, died Saturday morning after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia C. (Wellings). Mr. Dowd was born in Somerville on August 8, 1940, the son of the late John J. Dowd and Frances M. (Carey).
Jack, as he was known to his friends and family, grew up in Somerville and worked in the City of Somerville Parks Department for over 20 years. Jack lived in Woburn, Haverhill and Stoneham throughout his life.
In addition to his late wife and parents, Jack is also predeceased by his brother, the late Barry Dowd. He is survived by his four step-children, James King and his wife Bernadette of North Reading, Andrew King and his wife Barbara of Martinez, GA, Kelly King and her spouse Karen of Haverhill, Carolyn Lafferty and her husband Andy of Haverhill. Jack is also survived by his brother James Dowd and his wife Jane of Stoneham, aunt Rita Carey of Somerville, sister-in-law Lois Dowd of Somerville, and also seven loving grandchildren and a nephew.
His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Tuesday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 7-9. Interment will be private.
