Obituary

Marjorie Browning Walden of North Hill, Needham died on Wednesday September 17, 2008 at the age of 103. Born in Montville, Ct on July 15, 1905, the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Jennie (Browning) Walden. The family moved to Jamaica Plain in 1908. Marjorie attended Girls Latin School in Boston and graduated from Radcliff College in 1926 with a BA degree and a BS degree from Simmons College in 1927. In 1928 Marjorie went to work for a brokerage firm in Boston and later was an Executive Secretary for several mutual fund firms until her retirement in 1969.
In 1933 Marjorie’s family bought a small farm house in Needham. She became an avid gardener and her family became known for their flowers and vegetables that were sold from their home. She became an amateur photographer and traveled to many countries including Europe and the Orient. The family home was sold in 2000 and Marjorie became a resident of North Hill. She was also a longtime member of the Needham Garden Club, Needham Historical Society and Friends of the Needham Public Library.
Marjorie was the sister of the late Carol and Donald Walden. Loving aunt of Barrie Walden of Falmouth, Susan Towne of Owls Head, ME and Jennifer Smith of Chatham. She is also survived by her three great nieces, one great nephew and three great great nieces.
Funeral services will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home 1351 Highland Ave Needham on Saturday September 27th at 1:30 PM. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to the service. Interment will be held at the Needham Cemetery.
