NEW BEDFORD — Ethel M. (Willis) Diggle, age 91 years, of New Bedford, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edmund A. Diggle.
Born in Fall River, MA, daughter of the late George and Isabelle (Platt) Diggle, she was a high school graduate and studied at Thibodeau Business School in Fall River.
Formerly of Acushnet, she moved to New Bedford in 1948 and had been a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
For many years she was employed in the baby department of the former Star Store in downtown, was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the South Shore Auto Club, the American Automobile Club of America, the New Bedford Pairpoint Glass Society and had sung with a barber shop choral group.
Ethel was very fond of her cats, Calli and Oliver and especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, George Diggle of Fairhaven and Edmund Diggle Jr., of New Jersey; two sisters, Dorothy Wood of Fall River and Evelyn Manchester of New Hampshire; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers George and Everett Willis.
Her private funeral arrangements were with the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford
