Allen V. MacDonald of Bridgewater died after a long illness at the home of his beloved and devoted companion Jean M. Jordan in Pembroke while surrounded by his family on Sept. 14. He was age 80. He was the son of the late Allen and Elizabeth (Doherty) MacDonald and was born in Dover and raised in Hanover. Allen graduated from Hanover High School in 1945. After graduation he served with the US Marine Corps from 1945 to 1948. He was stationed in Key West Fl. He was proud to have served in the Presidential Guard for Harry S. Truman for whom he used to have candid chats with. Allen served in the US Marine Corps Reserves from 1948 to 1951 and earned the rank of Sergeant. Allen worked at the Brockton VA as a heavy equipment supervisor and specialist until 1960. Allen was the President and Owner of MacDonald Industries in Bridgewater. He was a Charter Member of the Semper Fidelis Society, former member of Mass Towing and Brockton & Bridgewater Business Association, and a key member of the Mass Business Advisory Council. Allen is survived by his devoted companion Jean M. Jordan of Pembroke. Former husband of Dorothy (Mussell) Blair of Bridgewater. Loving father of Allen MacDonald of East Bridgewater, David and his wife Marilyn (who devotedly nursed her father in law) of Bridgewater, Katherine Coleman of Bridgewater, Robert and his wife Lisa of Naples FL., James and his wife Kathy of Wareham, Richard and his wife Lisa of Bridgewater, Dorothy MacDonald of Bridgewater, Elizabeth MacDonald of Nashua, NH. And his extended family Jennifer Jordan Verre and her husband Philip of Plymouth and Rebecca Jordan Reppucci and her husband Michael of Wilmington. Proud grandfather of 17 and great grandfather of 5, and uncle to one. Brother of Dorothy Norton of Southwick . Funeral Thurs. Sept 18 from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home (Formerly Prophett’s), 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater at 8:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater at 9:00am. Interment Centre Cemetery, Hanover. Visiting hours Wed. from 4 to 8 pm.
