Obituary

Clyde W. Robinson, 91, passed away September 10, 2008 at a Hospice house in Florida, after a period of declining health. He was born November 7, 1916 in Brockton, MA to Wellington and Agnes (Grahn) Robinson and graduated from Brockton High School in 1934. He enrolled in the CCC’s (Civilian Conservation Corps) at Mt. Greylock in Pittsfield, MA. They constructed shelters, bridges, roadways, ski trails, etc. He skied many of those trails. He drew a scaled, detailed map of the Mountain which is now at the visitor’s Center. After his marriage to Grace Hutchinson of Pittsfield, MA, he worked at General Electric there he received a Drafting & Design degree while in their apprentice course. He was employed with Raytheon in Waltham, MA and during World War II was chosen to work with a group on the Manhattan Project (atom bomb) in California. Later, after employment at the Foxboro Company, he was approached by Sander’s Associates to join their new company and in 1952 Sander’s moved to Nashua, NH. He then settled in Derry and later in Londonderry, retiring in 1976. He was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was active in the Grange, PTA, Boy Scouts, Chess Club and the New Hampshire Horseshoe Pitching Association, winning many trophies and was a member of the Londonderry Planning Board for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, watching all of the Boston sports teams, playing cards and working on Crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Since 1980, he spent summers in Londonderry and wintered in The Villages, Florida, continuing his interests. He organized a chess club, horseshoe tournaments there and belonged to the NH Club and also played a lot more golf. The past three years he lived all year in Florida.

He leaves two daughters, Joan Chinn of Manchester, NH and Gale Robinson of Florida; a son, Clyde Robinson of Florida; an “adopted” daughter, Bonnie Whittemore of Florida; three step-sons, Richard Jones, Donald Jones and Edward Jones; five granddaughters, Diane Crilley, Joanne Caraway, Debra Langer, Deborah Grover, and Gayle Wdowiasz; a grandson, Scott Robinson, sixteen grandchildren and five great- great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Curtis Robinson, nieces and nephews and special friends Jeannie and Bernie. He was predeceased by his first wife and his second wife, Theresa Jones, and also a brother Clifford Robinson and a son-in-law David Chinn.

Calling hours were held at Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematory, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. A graveside service followed at Glenwood Cemetery, Mammoth Rd, at 2:00 PM.
