THOMPSON, CT - Rose M. (Romanek) Poplawski, 87, of North Grosvenordale, died Friday, Sept. 12, in Haven Health Center, Danielson. Her husband of 49 years, John Poplawski, Sr., died in 1995.
She leaves her four children, Rose and her husband Tom Tiernan, Mary and her husband Bob Thiesing, John Poplawski, Jr., and Tom and his wife Kathy Poplawski; grandchildren Ian and Brian Targonsky, Chris Thiesing and his wife Erica, Jessica Thiesing and her fiancé Chad Cantwell; the stepsons of Tom Poplawski, Bill Starzec, Shaun Benton and his wife Sheri, and their daughter Natalie.
She was born in Jewett City, a daughter of Peter and Mary (Cygan) Romanek. She was a communicant of Saint Joseph’s Church.
Rose and her husband worked together braiding rugs, making pies and raising vegetables. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, especially pies and sponge cake. She loved gardening and flowers. Rose was an excellent seamstress. For 48 years, she cared for her son John, meeting all his needs and helping him make his transition to living in a group home.
Rose appreciated all those who helped her and were her care givers in the last few years. She loved her family and placed everyone ahead of herself.
The funeral will gather Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 9:30 AM in the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM in Saint Joseph’s Church, 18 Main Street, North Grosvenordale. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Calling hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, Sept. 15, in the funeral home.
