WEBSTER – Walter P. “Pete” Bomba, 86, of 96 Slater Street, died Friday, September 12, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Joyce S. (Carpenter) Bomba; 2 daughters, Darlene A. Bomba and Susanna “Sue” Zalewski and her husband William, all of Dudley; 2 granddaughters, Robyn and Jillian Zalewski; 2 sisters, Joan Cramer of Berkey, Ohio and Lena Bomba of Webster; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Stanley and Mitchell Bomba and by his sisters Rose Caplette and Stasia Rzeszutko.
He was born in Webster, a son of Ludwik and Stefania (Mrzyglod) Bomba and lived here all his life. He graduated from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. He earned a bronze star medal.
Mr. Bomba was a machinist at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville for many years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Basilica. He was an ardent Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots Fan.
The funeral will be held Monday, September 15, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. His nephew, the Rev. Paul M. Bomba, will be the principal concelebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. A calling period will be from 8:45 to 9:45 AM Monday prior to the Mass.
