GLOUCESTER: Stephen H. Schultz, 88, died Thursday, September 11, 2008 in the Harborside Healthcare – Cedar Glen in Danvers following an extended illness. He was the husband of Alice (Haley) Schultz.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 22, 1920, he was the son of the late Stephen P. and Irene B. (Henrichs) Schultz. He lived in St. Louis prior to his enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard following the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. He was stationed in Gloucester, where he met Alice at a USO dance. Following his honorable discharge in 1947, he returned to Gloucester to marry Alice and made Gloucester their home.
Steve was employed at the Sears, Roebuck and Company in Gloucester and Peabody for over forty years before his retirement. He had also worked for many years at the election polls in Gloucester. He was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting coins and baseball cards.
In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, he is survived by his son, Stephen P. Schultz of Derry, New Hampshire. He was also predeceased by his son, William H. Schultz, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Cyril Schultz and Vernon and Dorothy Schultz and a brother-in-law, Benjamin C. Haley, Jr.
His funeral services will be held on Tuesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday evening from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Gloucester.
