Richard “Dick” Lebeau, 67, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born on May 16, 1941 in his family home in North Fairhaven to Oscar and Alice (Richard) Lebeau, he lived in Fairhaven all of his life. A proud, 1959 graduate of Fairhaven High School, he served in the U.S. Army and married his high school sweetheart and best friend with whom he was married these last 46 years. For the last three years he and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in their home in Naples, Florida.
A generous, loving man who even in failing health took great pride in his home and his garden. He loved flowers, especially his English Roses and sharing them with family and friends.
He had his share of health challenges but always managed to maintain a very positive attitude. He appreciated each and every day and most of all cherished the fact that he played such a big part in his grandsons' daily lives. Watching them grow into the young men they are today brought him such pride.
Dick was a retired member of Local 51 Plumbers and Steamfitters union and for the last three years worked as a dock tender at Fairhaven Shipyard and Marina.
He is survived by his wife Betsy (Medeiros) Lebeau and his devoted daughters Dianne Bowers and her fiancée Christopher Sharples and Suzanne Soares and her husband Shad, all of New Bedford. His grandsons Brandon Soares, Christopher Soares, Michael Bowers and Jonathan Bowers. He is also survived by his brother Robert E. Lebeau and his wife Carol from Newcastle, ME as well as his very dear friends Cuffy, Richard, George and Fred.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 15th at 10 AM in St. Mary's Church Fairhaven. His family will receive guests at church on Monday morning from 9 to 10 AM prior to his Funeral Mass. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
