Michael J. Hennessy, 83 of Derry, NH died Thursday September 11, 2008 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry. Mr. Hennessy was born in Limerick, Ireland on June 5, 1925 a son of the late William and Bridget (Hartigan) Hennessy. He was raised in the Bronx and later moved to Yonkers, NY and Edgewater, NJ. He had resided in Derry for the past five years. Mr. Hennessy was a WWII US Navy veteran and was a member of the VFW Post 5420 in Edgewater and the VFW in Yonkers. He had worked for many years for ALCOA and later worked for Lever Bros. Co., both in Edgewater. He retired from Xerox Corp. in Moonachie, NJ. He was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Church and the Holy Name Society both in Edgewater. He more recently attended St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry and Londonderry United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, William F. Hennessy and his wife Paula of Lyme, CT, a daughter, Mary V. Hunt and Her husband Greg of Londonderry, NH, four grandchildren, Chantelle, Ryan, Kelly and Leah, two great-grandchildren, Reese and Grace, his sister, Mary Dwyer of W. Haverstraw, NY, his brother, Daniel Hennessy of Edgewater, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica N. (O’Donoghue) Hennessy in 2002. He was also predeceased by five brothers, William Hennessy, John Hennessy, Thomas Hennessy, Patrick Hennessy and James Hennessy.
Calling hours were held on Friday evening September 12, 2008 from 6 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Following cremation, burial will take place at a later date in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial Contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, NH Chapter, 22 Bridge St., Concord, NH 03301.
