Obituary

Daniel E. Gallant, Sr., 84, of Belgrade, ME, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at his daughter’s home in Londonderry, NH. Mr. Gallant was born in Waltham, MA on May 3, 1924, a son of the late Edmund J. and Jessie (McNeal) Gallant. He was a resident of Belgrade for the past four years, formerly living in Mendon, MA for 43 years. During the depression, his family moved to Prince Edward Island, Canada where they farmed. During WWII he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, was wounded in action in Germany and became a P.O.W. Following the war he became a licensed electrician and worked for General Motors for 25 years. He was the electrical inspector for the town of Mendon for a short time also. Mr. Gallant was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He was a longtime communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Mendon. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mr. Gallant enjoyed gardening, traveling and his family.

He is survived by four daughters, Sonya M. Bart of Surprise, AZ, Kathleen Lawrence of Londonderry, Mary Luther of Orlando, FL, Christine Cameron of Hudson, MA, four sons, Daniel Gallant Jr. of Northbridge, MA, Donald Gallant of Millers Falls, MA, Kenneth Gallant of Framingham, MA, Albert Gallant of Belgrade, ME, 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Marion Fannon of Florida. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Gallant in 1983 and by his brother Ernest Gallant.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10:00am in the Swandale Cemetery, Hartford Ave., E. and Cemetery St., Mendon, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01710.
