Obituary

Pastore, Carole Ann (D’Attilio) ---- After a long struggle with breast cancer of 19 years, died at home in Medford this past Monday, September 8, 2008 in the arms of her husband, Robert D’Attilio.

She leaves her husband, Robert D’Attilio, her mother Mrs. Lucille
Pastore of Dalton, MA. She also leaves a nephew, nieces, aunts and uncles.

Carole spent most of her professional life as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher of ballet. She began her dance studies at the Pittsfield Community Music School. From there she won a Dance Magazine scholarship to the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. She then attended the Boston Conservatory of Music. She graduated from there with a MFA cum laude in 1960. Jan Veen, Head of the Dance Department, asked her to remain as a member of the dance faculty. She danced for the Conservatory’s Dance Theatre, choreographed, and taught ballet and dance classes at the Boston Conservatory for the next 40 years. She also studied at the Ballet Russe School and the National Ballet of Canada, where she received certification in the Cecchetti method. She performed with the Boston Dance Theatre, Boston Civic Ballet, the New England Opera Company, and a Brandeis University production of L’Histoire du Soldat, prepared under the direction of Robert Koff and with Gus Somomons Jr. She also taught at MIT, Newton Creative Arts Center, Ballet Theatre of Boston; was founder/director of the North End Dance Program at the North Bennet St. School, acting director of the summer program at the Mid-Cape Ballet Academy and a guest teacher at the Tatania Babushkina School of Ballet.While teaching at the Conservatory, Carole attended the Simmons School of Library Science from where she received a Masters Degree in Library Science in 1993. From 2000, she began working as a full-time librarian for several law firms and Harvard University, until her health allowed her only to work part time at Harvard’s Baker Library. Her illness forced her to leave any work in 2007. She was at home until her death ended her tremendous final struggle this past Monday.

Visiting hours for friends and family will be Saturday, September 13, from 2-5 pm at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford. No flowers please. A donation to any organization fighting breast cancer in Carole’s name would be most appropriate.
