Obituary

LOWELL - Rena (Karoutas) (Tamanakis) Bikos, 100, of Lowell, died early Sunday morning in the Blaire House of Tewksbury. She was the wife of the late Nicholas Tamanakis who predeceased her in 1938 and the late George Bikos who predeceased her in 1969.

Born in Pentalofo, Macedonia, Greece on June 10, 1908, she was a daughter of the late John and Anastasia Karoutas. She was educated in Greece before immigrating to the United States at the age of sixteen and had lived in Haverhill prior to coming to Lowell.

Mrs. Bikos had been employed for many years as an Examiner by the former Suffolk Knitting Company on Jackson Street in Lowell. Prior to that she along with her first husband owned and operated the former Lowell Lamb Company on Lewis Street in Lowell.

She was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell as well as a member of the Ladies Philoptochos at the Church.


In her free time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and time spent in the company of her family.

Surviving her are her daughter and son-in-law H. Nicoletta "Nikki" and Theodore "Ted" Nikolopoulos of Dracut; her son and daughter-in-law John N. and Mary Tamanakis of Westford; four grandchildren Maia and Rhea Tamanakis of Westford, George Nikolopoulos and his wife Diane and Nicholas Nikolopoulos and his wife JoAnn all of N. Andover; five great grandchildren Sophia, Elizabeth, Theodore "Theo", Anastasia and Dean Nikolopoulos; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Glyko Babalis, Helen Themistos, Morfo Frangas, Mary Zapsaplis and Milton Karoutas.

Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM. Her Funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 9 AM followed by her Funeral Service at 10 AM in the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Lowell.
