GLOUCESTER: Sebastian D. “Busty” “Spinney” Saputo, 76, died on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Janice A. (Byrne) Saputo of Gloucester and Summerfield, FL.
Born in Gloucester on August 10, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Lena (Saputo) Saputo. He served in the US Air Force serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Peter's Club, the Gloucester Lodge of Elks No. 892 and the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3 American Legion. Mr. Saputo was also a communicant of St. Timothy’s Parish in Lady Lake, FL and the former St. Peter’s Parish in Gloucester.
Mr. Saputo enjoyed his home in Gloucester during the summer months and his home in Summerfield, FL during the winter where he enjoyed playing golf.
He was an owner of the fishing vessels “Barnegat”, “The Pavilion Beach” and the “Jason & Lynn” and was on the crew of “White Dove” out of Cape May, NJ. In the 1970’s, he and his wife were the owners of Ted’s Fish Market in Beverly and the Drift In Restaurant on Rocky Neck.
In addition to his wife Janice, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage, he is survived by his brother, Vincent “Jimmy” husband of Mary Saputo, his sisters, Angeline, wife of Salvatore Verga, Frances, wife of Joseph Vizena, and Mary Ann, wife of William Porper all of Gloucester, his sisters-in-law, Louise Hatcher of Summerfield, FL, and Claire, wife of Raymond Costantino of Highland, NY, brother-in-law, Oliver T., husband of Evelyn Byrne of Eltings Corners, NY and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday in the Sacred Heart Church, 62 School St., Manchester-by-the-Sea at 11:00 a.m., where visiting hours will be held prior to the Mass from 9-11 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Memorial gifts and contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
