GLOUCESTER: Madelyn Mae (Spinney) Hayes, 64, of 8 Cedarwood Road passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday morning, September 7, 2008 following a brief illness. She was the wife of Kenneth M. Hayes.
Born in Ipswich on April 25, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Harold N. and Barbara L. (Howe) Spinney. She had attended the former Rufus Choate Elementary School in Essex and was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1962.
Following graduation, she was employed as a secretary for several years at the former United Shoe Machinery Corporation in Beverly. For the past twenty years, she has been employed by the Cape Ann Marina, where she was the head of housekeeping.
Madelyn was a longtime member of the Gloucester Fraternity Club Ladies Auxiliary. A people person, she was a great conversationalist and was always quick to smile. Her greatest devotion in life was her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband of forty-four years, she is survived by four sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth M. Hayes, Jr., Timothy W. Hayes, Christian N. and Kayla D. (Raphael) Hayes, Kenneth M. “Tres” Hayes, III, four grandchildren, Brittney, Kaylie, Brodie and Talon Hayes, two sisters, Joan, wife of Frederick Perkins of Naples, FL, Marcia, wife of Richard Laudarowicz of Beverly Hills, FL, her mother-in-law, Dorothy J. Hayes, brother-in-law, Wayne B. Hayes and sister-in-law, Pauline Hayes and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and dear friends. She was also predeceased by her father-in-law, Oscar W. Hayes, her daughter-in-law, Coleen Hayes and brother-in-law, Donald O. Hayes.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in the Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
