ANDOVER: Francis A. “Frank” Magoon, age 55, a resident of Andover for 39 years, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at home.
Born in Chelsea at the Chelsea Naval Hospital, he was the son of Evelyn E. (Dufresne) Magoon, who survives him of Andover and the late Alvin H. Magoon.
Mr. Magoon was raised in a military family. He attended schools throughout the eastern United States and Canada and was graduated from Andover High School in 1972.
Since a very early age, he was a gifted and brilliant thinker, winning awards for his inventions throughout his schooling years. He was employed as an engineer by the Raytheon Corporation in Tewksbury for over the last 20 years. Many a missile flew and radar ranged because of his talents. He also applied his trade at Frequency Sources, Wincom, and Stanford Telecom.
Frank was a visionary, a great microwave engineer, a sportsman, instrument and float plane rated pilot, outdoorsman extraordinaire, a pro level RC airplane enthusiast, and a world class marksman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, snowshoeing, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and flying his Cessna airplane with family and friends. He was a member of several organizations including the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association, the Pelham Rod & Gun Club, the Andover Rod & Gun Club and the 495er’s Radio Controlled Aircraft Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Bonnie L. Haley and her husband Michael of Westford; two nephews, Kyle B. and Matthew P. Haley of Westford; his companion, Francoise Hembert of Tewksbury.
Calling hours Monday, Sept. 8th, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral service Tuesday, Sept. 9th, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
