William A. Martinelli Sr., 79, of Dickson City, died Thursday morning at home following an illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Delores "Dee" Hudak.
Born in Olyphant on June 25, 1929, son of the late Leonard and Anna Picchio Martinelli, he attended Scranton schools and was a graduate of Johnson Technical Institute. He was a member of Holy Ghost Church, Olyphant, where he was an usher for the 11 a.m. Mass. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and served as cub master and scout master of Pack and Troop 36. A veteran of the Korean War, he was employed by Mayflower Manufacturing, Scranton, for 45 years.
He was a beloved and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his entire family. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten by all who knew him.
Also surviving are three sons, William Jr. and wife, Colleen, Dickson City; Gery and wife, Cheryl, Montdale; and Andrew, at home; a daughter, Dorice Michalik and husband, Greg, Seminole, Fla.; five grandsons, Chris and Nick Michalik, Eric, Ryan and Andrew Martinelli; three granddaughters, Andrea, Allison and Renee Martinelli; a great-granddaughter, Chloe; a brother, Armand; a sister, Julie Clause; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Leonard.
The funeral will be Monday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home, Willow and Grant streets, Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, Scranton.
