Obituary

MORRILL Lois M. “Popsie” (Fisher) - of Newton, formerly of Wellesley, died August 31, 2008 at Newton Health Care Center at the age of 92.

Lois was born on Fisher Ave. in Wellesley, November 17, 1915, the fifth of six children to Lewis and Alice Fisher. She went to school in Wellesley and graduated from Wellesley High School in 1934. From there, she attended White’s Sewing School. She was a seamstress at Filene’s for 32 years.

Lois was married to George M. Morrill who passed away in June 1995. Together they sold berries and vegetables from their farm “Poverty Scratch Farm” on Fisher Ave. in Wellesley for many years. Their 3 acre farm became “Morrill Circle” in 1989. Lois was the matriarch of the Circle for several years until she moved to The Falls at Cordingly Dam in Newton in 2004.

Lois had a zest for life and new adventures throughout her lifetime. She loved gardening and people and had a generous and giving nature.

She is survived by her close friends Jeanne O’Connell of Waltham, MA, Margaret Lowe of Natick, MA, and Harriet Fisher of Natick, formerly of Wellesley, MA and her surrogate grandchildren Nicholas, Claire, and William Henry Lowe of Somerville, MA. Her dear friend Morris Rubin of Newton, MA passed away on August 15, 2008.

Lois leaves many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and their spouses, especially Leonard and Jean Locke of Waterville, VT, Beverly and Geoffrey Hyde of Peterborough, UK and Penacook, NH, Richard and Rena Fisher of Irvine, CA, Sandra and George Slocum of Grants Pass, OR and Paul Fisher of Hudson, MA. She was the aunt of the late Constance and Harlan Bongard of San Marcos, CA.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Weston United Methodist Church, 377 North Ave. (Route 117) Weston, MA 02493.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Weston United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society – Breast Cancer Research, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Arrangements by George F. Doherty & Sons, Wellesley.
