William F. Davis, 75

Dateline: Norton, MA

William F. Davis, 75, of Norton formerly of South Boston died on Wednesday September 3, 2008 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Mildred E. (Golden) Davis to whom he was wed to on October 22, 1955.
Born in Boston, MA on April 2, 1933 he was a son of the late Lawrence C. and Lillian M. (Henderson) Davis.
A 1950 graduate of Dorchester High School he proudly served from 1951-1954 on the USS Oriskany in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged with the rank of FN.
Mr. Davis faithfully worked for 30 years as a dispatcher for the Boston Edison Co., retiring 13 years ago and was a member of the Boston Edison Retirement Association.
A resident of Norton for the past 4 years he had formerly made his home in South Boston for 38 years. Since living in Norton he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and was a member of the Lieutenant Harold A. Healy American Legion Post 222 in Norton.
He was a former member of the Irish American Club in South Boston. Bill was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. He enjoyed reading about American History and spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 53 years he is survived by his devoted children William F. Davis and his wife Debra of Quincy, Lawrence J. Davis and his wife Patricia of Mansfield, Richard J. Davis and his wife Rosemary of South Boston, Francis M. Davis and his wife Lois of Weymouth, Kathleen M. Davis and her husband Franklin Arias of South Boston, Barbara E. Lampron and her husband Wayne of Mansfield, Ann Marie Miranda and her husband Mark of Mansfield, Thomas E. Davis and his wife Dorothy of Haverhill and Paul A. Davis and his wife Joan of Mansfield. He was the brother of the late Priscilla Coleman and Barbara Aylward. Also surviving are his cherished 19 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday September 8th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday September 7th from 3-7 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Joslin Diabetes Association 1 Joslin Place Boston, MA 02215.
