Edward J. “Bud” Maurer, 84, of Westport passed away Friday, August 29, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Morin) Maurer for 61 years.
Born in Fall River, son of the late Rudolph and Agnes (Ronan) Maurer, he had lived in Westport for the past 34 years. He was a 1941 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and was a member of the varsity baseball team. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Maurer loved sports and was active in the Maplewood Little League and also managed the John Stafford American Legion baseball Team. Prior to retirement in 1991, he was a parts manager for American Dryer Corporation.
Including his wife, survivors include a daughter: Margaret “Peggy” Kokoszka and her husband and loving son-in-law Anthony of Fall River; a son: Steven Maurer of Westport; a sister: Carol Sullivan of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.
He was father of the late Michael Maurer and brother of the late William Maurer, Francis Maurer, Mary Lou Sullivan, Marilyn Banville and Janice Simpson.
At the request of the family private funeral services were held.
Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
