Elizabeth Persson Robbins Webster, age 100, of Noank, passed away early morning of March 31st at the Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center. She was born October 21, 1902 in Dorchester Center, Boston, MA daughter of Charles Albert and Elizabeth Jenks Robbins.
She grew up in Bangor, ME and graduated from Bangor High School in 1921. She attended Dana Hall School, Wellesley College, and the New England Conservatory of Music.
Before moving to Noank, she lived in Mountain Lakes, NJ where she was prominent in music circles, having been accompanist for and President of the MacDowell Club for 30 years and substitute organist at the Mountain Lakes Community Church where she was a member for over 40 years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and was piano and organ accompanist in over 50 churches and organizations in all the New England States, Pennsylvania and Florida. She was a longtime member of O.E.S. Chapter 270 at Mountain Lakes and an honorary member of Chapter 33 of O.E.S. at Islesboro, ME where she spent her summers. In Mystic, she belonged to the Congregational Church.
She was an honorary member of the AAUW of Connecticut.
She married Fullerton Deering Webster on September 12, 1925. She was predeceased by her husband, an infant brother, two brothers, Theodore of Maine and Kenneth of Massachusetts, and two sister, Helen (Transue) of Avon, Connecticut and Lucy (Creelman) of Islesboro, Maine. She is survived by two sons, William and John, of Mystic and a daughter Ruth Vandegriff of Lakewood, New Jersey, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Mystic Congregational Church at 11:00am on Saturday, April 26, 2003. Donations in her memory may be made to the Mary Elizabeth Resident Council, 28 Broadway, Mystic or the Mystic Congregational Church, 43 East Main Street, Mystic CT 06355.
