Harry Stewart Reels Jr., age 72, of 64 Coachman Pike, Ledyard, died Sunday at W.W. Backus Hospital in Norwich after being stricken.
He was born in Wakefield, RI on October 27, 1930 the son of Harry S. Reels Sr. and Corrine (Thomas) Reels. After receiving his education, he served in the US Army.
A member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, he was employed as an Asst.. Office Manager for the Tribe.
He was married to Evelyn Lucille (Sebastian) Reels in Wakefiled in 1970. Mrs. Reels died November 25, 1996.
An avid golfer and jazz music fan, he was also a member of I.B.A,
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Ann Reels of Mashantucket, 4 brothers, Martin Reels of S. Kingstown, RI, Thomas Reels of Connecticut, Gordon Reels of East Providence, and Norman Reels of West Warwick; three grandchildren, Derrick Reels, Dominique Beltram and Danielle Beltram, several nieces and nephews.
POST-SERVICE announcement:Over 300 people filled The Dinoto Funeral Home on Thursday for Mr. Reel's Funeral Service. Kenneth Reels, Mr. Reels' nephew and former Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe opened the service, followed by words of scripture and remembrance given by Pastor Wallace.
Burial followed at Avery-Stoddard Cemetery, Ledyard where traditional drums and singing were offered.
