Obituary

Selma S. Levine of Brookline and formerly of St. Louis, MO died on September 1, 2008. She was 88 years old. Selma was the beloved wife of the late Retired Lt. Col. Isadore I. Levine to whom she married in 1946.

Selma was born in St. Louis, MO and was a devoted army wife who lived in France, Germany, Washington, DC, and Fayetteville, NC. She retired to Brookline, MA in 1974. She received a Masters Degree in Library Science from the Catholic University of America in Washington DC. Selma had a successful career as a school librarian, and after retirement worked as a librarian at the New England Hebrew Academy in Brookline, MA from 1987 to 1997 and worked part time at Northeastern Law School from 1986 to 1999. Selma was a member of Kehillith Israel of Brookline which was a proponent of Jewish causes for Israel and also supported Jewish orphanages. Selma never lost her love for New York City and visited often when she was able. Selma was a lifelong learner and enjoyed politics, reading, the ocean, and music.

Selma was the devoted mother of Sylvia Honeywell & her husband James, Arthur D. Levine & his wife Rosalind Sloan, and Phyllis Levine Ovsiew & her husband Eric. She was the dear sister of Anne Marder & Francis Cohen. Selma was the loving grandmother of Michael Honeywell, Allyson Blackhart, & Aaron Osview. She is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.

Graveside services at Sharon Memorial Park, Canton St., Sharon, MA on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 1:45 PM. Memorial observance will be private. Contributions in Selma’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
