GLOUCESTER: James McVey, 62, of The Heights at Cape Ann died Sunday evening, August 31, 2008 at the Beverly Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia (Tettoni) McVey.
Born in Fall River on December 10, 1945, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Carvalho) McVey. He was a graduate of the Durfee High School in Fall River class of 1963.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served in the Vietnam War. He was later stationed at Andrews Air Force Base after the war. He enjoyed watching the History Channel and reading novels concerning all military conflicts and naval warfare.
He was a member of the Amvets Post #32, the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion and the Cape Ann Sportsman’s Club all of Gloucester.
Jim was a quiet and kind man, who loved all, especially children. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of eighteen years, he is survived by two sisters, Dorothy DeCoste and Nancy McGee both of Fall River, two nephews, Robert DeCoste of Rehobeth and David Tettoni of Gloucester, five nieces, Catherine Zak and Nancy Vickery both of Fall River, Lisa Mennino of Assonet, Marybeth Wilhelm of Gloucester and Abbey Maney of Quincy, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Tettoni of Gloucester and Elizabeth Maney of Wenham, many loving great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and dear friends in Fall River, Rehobeth, Assonet , Gloucester and Pawtucket, RI. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law and adopted father, Albert DeCoste, a brother, William McVey, brothers-in-law, Dennis McGee, Norman Tettoni and Gerald Maney, as well as his aunt and uncle, also his godparents, James and Philomena Carvalho.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church, Gloucester at 9 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Amvets Post #32 Scholarship Fund, c/o Thomas Glenn, 119 Western Ave., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery.
