Obituary

Don W. Day, 68, of Chula died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Randall Gay will officiate with eulogies to be given by Jimmy Allen and Sonny Pate. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula. Doug Gentry, Johnny Eaton, Jordan Short, Gordon Beatty, Gordon Burgess, and Randy Dill will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Crawford Leverett, Johnny Kelly, Larry Giddens, Wallace Bodkin, Malcolm Kelly, Bobby Stinson, Larry Stinson, Willie Andrews, Randy Bryan, Eric Fletcher, Joseph Fletcher, Ander Tucker, Barbara Hamilton, Rosemary Short, Quay Allen, Jamie Allen, Dake Bowling, Nita Dill, and Gary Grimes. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 29, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Day was born on August 2, 1940 in Irwin County and was the son of Joe Day of Chula and Juanita Wilson Day, deceased. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mack Day and Joseph Day. He was the retired owner and operator of Day Construction Company and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Chula.

He and his wife, Jane, were married in 1962. They lived in California from 1965 to 1968, where he worked on yacht interiors. In 1968, they returned to Georgia to start their construction company.

Don was a perfectionist with the highest integrity. His life was a testament to his dedication, drive and artistic ability (his superb craftsmanship). He was focused - centered with an intense work ethic. Many of his friends received some of his artistic works such as Santa Claus faces, pecan shell earrings, wooden crosses and exquisite pieces of nature.

In addition to his father, Joe Day and his wife, Jane Paulk Day of Chula, Mr. Day is survived by one son, Heath Day of Tifton; one brother, Charles Day of Marietta; and two sisters, Gloria Fletcher of Chula and Martha Sklany of Tifton.
