Obituary

Margaret Etha Moore Buckner, 84, Clarksville, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Gateway Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Rev. Carolyn Nobling officiating. Visitation will be from 1pm till the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Margaret was a devoted naturalist as well as a mother and homemaker. She bred African Violets, daylilies and irises. One of her iris hybrids, called "Margaret's Yellow Spoon," was introduced in a national catlog. She collected spores and seeds in the wild and grew scores of native Tennessee ferns and wildflowers. Her gardens drew visitors from all over the state. Margaret collected rocks, geodes, and native fossils and donated her finer specimens to Austin Peay State University. Many late nights, she led family expeditions to watch meteor showers and comets. She was avid an bird watcher. Enerything in nature interested her. Daughter of Thomas and Tinnie Moore of Moore's Hollow (Woodlawn), Margaret grew up as a farm girl and rode her pony, "Peony," to a one-room school in Dotsonville. She married William Leigh Buckner of Clarksville and raised three children. She is survived by her son, Larry Derrick, and two daughters, Mary Buckner and Bonnie Parker, as well as her three sisters, Helen Pressler, Mabel McKinney, and Barbara Gamble.
