Whitman- Charles G. “Jerry” Bezanson, Sr. 85, died Wednesday August 27th after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Davis) and the late Catherine (Burke) Bezanson.
Born in Brickton, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late H. Paul and Florence (Chute) Bezanson. He was raised in Weymouth and attended Weymouth schools.
Charles was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945. He was at the invasion of Normandy and served in battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a member of the Whitman VFW Post 697 and the Disabled Veterans.
He has been a resident of Whitman since 1960.
He loved fishing and sports, and enjoyed spending time with his family; he was truly a family man.
He is survived by his children Charles G. Bezanson, Jr. and his wife Linda of Hyannis, Brian J. Bezanson and his wife Elonie of Whitman and Kathleen F. Lynch and her husband Charles of N. Falmouth, his step children Denise Piccini of NV, William Pittsley of RI, Linda Nicholson of Pembroke, Kitty Fitzgibbons of Rockland, Dean Pittsley of CA, and Eileen Pittsley of Abington, also many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late David M. Bezanson, stepfather of the late Dennis and Mary Pittsley, and brother of the late Ernest, Lewis, Robert and John Bezanson.
His services will be held Saturday August 30th at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Friday August 29th from 4 – 8 PM. Donations in his name may be made to a Veterans’ Organization of one’s choice.
