Matthew J. Lombard, a Charlestown resident and formerly of Nahant, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. He was 66 years old.
Matt was born in Melrose. He grew up in Nahant where he attended and graduated from Lynn English High School in 1959. He attended The Marine Engineers College in Baltimore, Maryland. He enlisted into The United States Army and served during The Vietnam Conflict. Matt was owner of Albany Construction Company of Lynnfield, L & L Brothers and Weatherford Steel Companies. Matt especially enjoyed scuba diving and vacationing in St. Martin with his beloved wife and friends and summering in Nahant with his family.
Matt is the beloved husband of Virginia "Ginny" (Turner) Lombard who passed away on August 20, 2008. He is the devoted father of Matthew M. Lombard and his wife Kathy of Middleton, Kristen A. Taylor and her husband Bob of Haverhill. He is the loving brother of Maureen A. Balsom and her husband Roy, Peter P. Lombard and his wife Eileen, Richard J. Lombard and his wife Bonnie, John T. Lombard and his wife Mary-Anne, Eileen E. Lombard and the late Christopher M. Lombard Jr. and his surviving wife Martha A. Lombard. He is the former husband of Judith M. Lombard. He is the loving uncle of several nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Matt's Funeral will be held on Friday August 29, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Thursday August 28, 2008 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant.
