Manchester-Sr. Flora (Violette) St. Cyr, Religious of Jesus & Mary, 87, died August 24, 2008 at Holy Cross Health Care Center.
She was born in Manchester on April 27, 1921 the daughter of J.A. William and Florida (Dorais) St. Cyr.
She received her high school diploma from Villa Augustina Academy in Goffstown and her BA from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI.
She entered the Religious of Jesus & Mary on August 11, 1939 in Sillery, PQ where she made her religious profession on August 26, 1941.
She was missioned to Fall River, MA., Woonsocket, RI., Providence, RI., Goffstown, NH where she taught elementary and junior high school from 1942 to 1987.
In her 66 years as a Religious of Jesus & Mary she is especially remembered for her 32 years of teaching at her beloved Villa Augustina where she took great pride and joy in the teaching of French as a second language.
In her retirement years she was missioned to Joan of Arc residence in San Diego, CA., where she served as receptionist and where she had the joy of being near family residing in California and Arizona.
Her last years were spent at Jesus Mary Mission Center in Plainville, MA and at Holy Cross Health Care Center in Manchester, NH..
IN HER LIFE:Throughout her life she suffered courageously from chronic illnesses. She was ever grateful for the care she received at Holy Cross and participated actively in all their activities. She was and avid reader and remained in contact with family members and friends especially with her sister Pauline Mailloux her only surviving sibling. She was predeceased by her brothers Norman, Stephen and William. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
SERVICES:Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 PM and Friday from 9:30 to 10 AM at Holy Cross Health Care Center Chapel, 357 Island Pond Road, Manchester. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:15 AM in Holy Cross Chapel. Burial will follow in Villa Augustina Cemetery, Goffstown, NH.
