BEVERLY - Katherine “Kay” L. (Brown) Cushing, 83, wife of Robert H. Cushing, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Born in Morrisville, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Henry & Marion (Abar) Brown. Raised and educated in Boston, she moved to Salem upon her marriage and has been a resident of Beverly for 48 years.
Kay was employed for many years at the former Salem Credit Bureau, the Merchants Warren Bank, both in Salem and the Warren Five Bank in Peabody. Together with her mother, she opened the Mari-Kay Alteration Shop in downtown Salem which she operated until her retirement. In her retirement years, she worked at the Winmill Fabric Stores in Beverly & Danvers.
An active member of the First Baptist Church in Salem for over 58 years, she sang in the choir for 50 years and was a member of the Women’s Guild.
Besides her husband, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage, Kay is survived by 3 children, her Pearl Harbor Day twins (Dec. 7, 1941) and their spouses, Doris & Richard Yandell of Peabody, Donald & Frances Cushing of Beverly, her daughter, Cheryl & her husband Jon Hubbard of Salem, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Henry Brown, Robert Brown and Donald Brown.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 2 pm in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 4 to 8 pm.
