FRANKLIN: Russell S. Stein 82 of Franklin died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.
Born in Boston, June 20, 1926 a son of the late Herbert L. and Caroline (Simons) Stein he formerly lived in Boston for many years before moving to Franklin 8 years ago.
He was raised and educated in Brookline. He attended Brookline schools, and was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy. He also received his BA from Harvard University in 1948.
Until his retirement, Mr. Stein worked for many years as a psycho therapist for Eastern Middlesex Guidance Center. He also worked for several greater Boston hospitals, including Medfield State Hospital.
He served in the US Navy during World War II. He attained the rank of Electronic Technician Mate 3/class. He was awarded the WW II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in June 1946.
He loved to read, and enjoyed the arts, all kinds of music, painting in oils and with charcoal, and especially enjoyed summers with family and friends at Pigeon Cove in Rockport, Mass. Mr. Stein was a longtime member of AA and was most proud of his more than 20 years of sobriety.
He is survived by his sister Carol H. Broen of Sherman Oaks, Calif., 2 nieces, and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Service of Rememberance Sunday at 2PM in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Rev. Carol Rosine, pastor of the First Universalist Society in Franklin will officiate. Private interment services will take place at a later date.
