Obituary

James M. “Ross” Davis, 58, of Ocilla, Georgia died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, August 24 at the Ocilla Baptist Church with Dr. Jim Britt and Rev. Gerald Purvis officiating. Interment will follow in Willacoochee Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 on Saturday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Davis was born December 10, 1949 in Douglas to Hazel Miller Davis and the late James T. Davis. He lived in Irwin County for the past twenty years. Mr. Davis worked for the Turner County Sheriff’s Department, a former Police Chief in Willacoochee and a former officer with the Ocilla Police Department. He was a former security guard at Coffee Regional Medical Center and Dorminy Medical Center. Mr. Davis was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 100, in Ocilla and a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Davis of Ocilla; mother, Hazel M. Davis of Willacoochee; children; Edward (Roxanne) Davis of Nashville, Tina Hernandez of Mercedes, TX, Angie (David) Williams of St. Simons Island and Fred (Cheyenne) Broome of Irwinville; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Davis of Willacoochee and Mary (Jimmy) Johnson of Waycross; several aunts and uncles including, Shirley & Hilsman Sumner of Ellenton. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Archie “Petey” Davis.
